Biographie

Studies:

Christoph Eberle was born on April 3, 1959 in Hittisau, Vorarlberg. He studied clarinet and conducting at the State Conservatory in Feldkirch and graduated in 1980. He then studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Prof. A. Brandhofer, Prof. P. Schmidl and Prof. O. Suitner and graduated in 1986 with honours.

Competitions:

Eberle was the winner of the “Jugend musiziert” prize in Leoben, Austria. In 1995 he was a finalist in the international Leonard Bernstein conducting competition in Jerusalem.

Debut:

In 1986 he made his conducting debut with the vienna camber ochestra in the Wiener Konzerthaus. This was the beginning of an international career as a conductor. He collaborated with numerous renowned artists such as Heinrich Schiff, Thomas Zehetmair, Paul Gulda, Julian Rachlin, Joshua Bell, Sergey Krylov, Clemens Hagen, Michala Petri, Bruno Leonardo Gelber, Agnes Baltsa, Thomas Quasthoff, Jean-Yves Tibaudet and many others.

Recordings:

Since 1990 he has recorded thirteen CDs with Preiser Records, Naxos, Bayer Records, Agorà, ORF and SWF. Five concerts and several documentaries have also been broadcast by RAI Radio Televisione, ORF and ZDF since 1995. Furthermore, various broadcasting companies have aired numerous live-recordings in Europe and overseas.

Festivals:

Eberle has welcomed invitations to international festivals such as the Schubertiade Feldkirch, Kammermusikfestival Lockenhaus, Bregenzer Festspiele, Reingau Festival (Germany), Bodensee-Festival and Bregenzer Frühling.

Music Theatre:

In 1989 Christoph Eberle received his first invitation to the Semperoper in Dresden where he conducted Figaros Hochzeit and Cosi fan tutte by W.A. Mozart. In 1990 a new production of Hänsel und Gretel by E. Humperdinck followed. He then had further conducting engagements at theaters in Klagenfurt, St. Gallen, Ulm and at the Salzburger Landestheater. Premiere of G.C. Menotti’s „The Consul“ and „Hänsel und Gretel“ at the Wiener Volksoper in 1998. In the same year Christoph Eberle made his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper conducting G. Verdi’s „La Traviata“. In may 2007 Premiere and DVD Produktion by K. Weill´s  „Arms and the cow“ at the Wiener Volksoper. Premiere of John Neumeier’s “dance narrative” As You Like It (Shakespeare/Mozart) at the Wiener Staatsoper on April 29, 2004. On Sept. 15, 2009 Premiere and performances „Neue Welt des Balletts“ and on Okt. 25, 2010 Premiere and performances in series  „Juwelen der neuen Welt“ on the Wiener Staatsoper.
On March 13, 2006 he had his debut at the Staatsoper Hamburg conducting J. Neumeier’s “dance narrative” Fenster zu Mozart. On June 29, 2008 he conducted at the premiere of a new production of Die Josephslegende/Verklungene Feste (R. Strauss) by J. Neumeier. On Nov 7, 2008 he conducted at the premiere of Daphnis and Chloe/ Le Sacre Du Printemps (Ravel, Stravinsky). 2009/10 „Hommage aux Belletts Russes“(Prkofiew, Tscherepnin, Stravinsky). On Sept. 16, 2012 Resumtion Premiere „Le Sacre“ and on Okt 12, 2012 guest performance and tv production of the new succesful production „Liliom“ (Legrand, Neumeier) in Baden Baden and at the Hamburger Staatsoper. This collaboration will be continued in this season and the coming one.

Chief Conductor:

1988-2005 chief conductor of the Symphonie Orchester Vorarlberg and the Camerata Bregenz. 1990-2005 artistic director from Vorarlberger Landestheater.

1997-2000 Direttore Stabile at the Orchestra Haydn Bolzano

1999-2002 Permanent guest conductor at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra

1999-2004 Chief Conductor of the Wiener Kammerorchester

2004-2006 Music director of the Salzburger Landestheater.

Since then Christoph Eberle has been working as a freelance musician and conductor.
Apart from various re-invitations to several of the above mentioned orchestras in the ongoing season, Eberle made his debut  with three concerts by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in May 2011. He was on tour to China and  performed seven concerts with the Odense Symfoniorkester. He has a continued cooperation with this orchestra since 2006.
